Setting up my own business has re-affirmed to me just how important prompt and accurate communication is. Most of the small business (and to be fair many of the larger ones) I have dealt with have really got this right – replying quickly to emails, following up email correspondence with a phone call where appropriate, and sending through updates to keep me in the loop. On the other hand I have spent many frustrating hours chasing others for updates and in some cases refunds. I chose one energy supplier over another because they responded promptly to my contact (despite the other being cheaper). And don’t get me started on HMRC…
